Peacenic 2026: An Act of Joyful Defiance

By Reverend Bruce Keeley, Founding Christian Co-president of the Council of Christians and Muslims

The 2026 Peacenic ‘picnic for peace’ will take place on Sunday 15 February 3-5pm at Arthur Faulkner Park, Mt Roskill and, when it comes to building relationships in our community, it doesn't get much more grassroots than sharing food and conversation.

The simplest gift of sharing time together is rewarding in itself but perhaps goes beyond that to offer a glimpse of the world as it could be.

Each Peacenic event is an opportunity for the whole family to meet up with friends, old and new.
Each Peacenic event is an opportunity for the whole family to meet up with friends, old and new.

Launched by the Auckland Council of Christians and Muslims in 2016, the annual Peacenic 'picnic for peace' grew out of a desire to replace the polarising bad-news stories that dominate media attention with real experiences of hospitality and friendship in our own backyard.

The Auckland-based Council of Christians and Muslims was formed thirty years ago and was ground-breaking at the time. Its purpose was the establishment of trusting relationships through the sharing of common ground, the respectful exploration of differences, and working together towards a more peaceful and just society. That kaupapa became extremely relevant in the wake of 9/11, as all Muslims found themselves under judgement and many Christians (and other non-Muslims) realised their ignorance of Islam and its followers. The CCM was able to offer a meeting point through its regular public gatherings and workshops offered to church and community groups.

In recent years the annual Peacenic has provided a different way of meeting, in an atmosphere of relaxed conversation and the sharing of diverse cultures and food. It might also be seen as an act of ‘joyful defiance’ in the face of increasing polarisation and suspicion between nations and communities of varying faiths, cultures and political persuasions.

Here’s a chance for us to celebrate our common humanity and take a positive stand against the hateful rhetoric of voices that want to keep us apart.

We look forward to seeing you there!

I really appreciated the message behind Peacenic 2026, especially the idea that sharing food, conversation, and time can help replace division with genuine friendship. The emphasis on creating spaces where people from different faiths and cultures can meet respectfully is such a positive example of grassroots community building. It also made me think about how students and working people often struggle to balance academic responsibilities with meaningful community experiences. When coursework becomes overwhelming, some may even search for options to pay someone to take my online exam, but having supportive communities and better ways to manage responsibilities can make it easier to stay engaged with the things that matter beyond study. The idea of choosing connection and understanding over suspicion…

It is fascinating to see how the housing market keeps growing despite inflation. Just like mastering a tricky level in ジオメトリーダッシュ , navigating these economic shifts requires perfect timing and focus. Whether you are investing in property or playing a rhythm game, staying consistent eventually leads to great results.

I really enjoyed reading this. The idea that positive communities can inspire people through joy instead of conflict is something we need more of, both online and offline. It reminded me that gaming communities can have a similar impact when they encourage teamwork and creativity. I've been following the latest Null's Brawl updates, and it's interesting to see how new brawlers, gameplay improvements, and fresh events keep players engaged while bringing the community together. It's always nice to discover recommendations from other players who share useful tips and trusted resources for staying up to date. Thanks for sharing such an uplifting perspective. I recently came across the PeaceNic 2026 post and it reminded me how small communities and shared interests can bring people together in a positive way. A few days ago, I was talking with friends about how online spaces can create moments of creativity, fun, and connection. We discussed different platforms where people gather, from community events that spread joy to gaming communities where players share experiences. I found the idea behind PeaceNic inspiring because it shows how people can come together with a positive purpose, and it also reminded me of the Nulls Brawl iOS community, where players enjoy discovering new ways to experience the game on their devices. Both represent different kinds of communities, but they share the…
