Living God’s Love:

Welcoming - Worshipping - Nourishing - Empowering

A very warm welcome to the community of Holy Trinity Cathedral.

If you would like to know more about Cathedral programmes, or receive regular information, please complete one of the blue cards at the rear of the Cathedral or Chapel, and give it to a sides-person or to one of the clergy.

Sentence: God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. John 3:17

Collect: True and faithful God, you give courage to the fearful and endurance to martyrs. Sustain us as followers of your Son Jesus, that with boldness and conviction we may witness for your love to all. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

8am & 10am: Jeremiah 20:7-13; 2 Romans 6:1b-11; Matthew 10:24-39 9am: Jeremiah 20:7-13; Matthew 10:24-39 5pm: 1 Samuel 24:1-17; Luke 14:12-24

"I’ve met so many who have lost so much. But they never lose their dreams for their children or their desire to better our world. They ask for little in return – only our support in their time of greatest need"

— UN Secretary-General, António Guterres

Refugees are never far from the news headlines, it seems, but they are especially to the fore at the present moment with International Refugee Day earlier this week, and our Cathedral team of stalwarts – Ivica, Susannah, Caitlin and Joel – having just finished their days of living on refugee rations and raising $3483.10 in the process. Well done, team! This evening we have David Lawson of Christian World Service continuing the theme at Evensong.

Wellington’s Bishop Justin Duckworth went to Parliament on Refugee Day to encourage MPs to sign a pledge to double NZ’s current annual refugee intake to 1500. Our Anglican and Catholic Church leaders had earlier made such a plea, and declared the readiness of the Christian community to help this happen on the ground.

While the quota is set to increase to 1000 next year, this will only slightly raise NZ’s world rating of 96th, in terms of refugees accepted on a per capita basis.

Jesus, in his earliest years, knew the experience of having to flee to another country. His followers should be amongst the first to receive and welcome those who have nowhere to lay their heads.
