About the Event
From the resplendent energy of Jonathan Dove’s motet ‘Vast Ocean of Light’ to the serenity and warmth of Eric Whitacre’s ‘Lux Aurumque’, this concert explores various composers’ responses to light.
‘Lux Aeterna’ is a tranquil, light-filled piece, which is at the same time transportive and transcendent; penned by one of America’s best-loved choral composers, Morten Lauridsen.
The young choir, Virtuoso Voce, from Diocesan School for Girls, joins Auckland Choral for David Hamilton’s award-winning ‘American Triptych’, setting three texts by American poets on the subject of music and specifically the art of singing; and in ‘A Blessing of Light’, Mezzo Soprano Sarah Court is the soloist.
Completing the programme is Handel’s ‘Largo of Love’ – Ombra mai fu, the opening aria in the opera ‘Serse”, as well as Philip Smith providing nourishment for lovers of organ music.
