Lent Series 2017 jpeg

LENTEN SERIES - CONSECRATED TO THE LORD

Wednesdays March 8, 15, 22, 29  at 7.30 pm, St Mary's-in-Holy Trinity

This series has been prepared by Bishops Ross and Jim and will be made available to ministry units throughout the diocese.

It explores the biblical understanding of consecration and our own call to be set apart as followers and disciples of Jesus.

St Patricks Catholic Cathedral community will join us each week.

This is a valuable opportunity to take time to go deeper in the understanding of our faith during the 40 days of Lent

Refreshments will be served in the Bishop Monteith Vistors' Centre after each session.

Holy Trinity Cathedral invites you to join in celebrating the restoration of the historic St Marys Organ.  Built by George Croft in 1909, this instrument has just undergone a significant restoration by Simon Pierce and his team from Pierce Pipe Organs, Brisbane.

Painting and gilding of the pipework has been designed and completed by Studio Carolina Izzo, Parnell, Auckland.

The Opening Recital of the series will be performed by Cathedral Organist Philip Smith, with Michael Stoddart, Director of Music at Holy Trinity Cathedral.

Other recitals in the series feature national and international guest performers including Johann Vexo - Organist Nancy Cathedral and Assistant Organist of the Choir Organ Notre-Dame Cathedral, Paris; Damien Rivière Tenor, Notre-Dame Cathedral Choir, Paris; Zosia Herlihy-OBrien Organ Scholar, Holy Trinity Cathedral; Paul Chan Organist, St Matthews-In-The-City; and Stephen Vincent Organist, St. Lukes, Remuera.

Recital programmes include music by Bach, Pick-Mangiagalli, Festing, Sumsion, Stanford, Messiaen, Reubke, Alain, Vierne, Ketelbey, Rheinberger, Verdi, Walther, Guilmant, Darke & Demessieux.

You will not want to miss seeing and hearing this newly restored instrument.

In the year that our beautiful Cathedral will be consecrated, we are looking forward to a full year of musical celebration to complement the spiritual and social significance of this historic time.
