TE RĀTAPU TEKAU MĀ WHĀ O HE WĀ NOA IHO
Sentence: Your merciful love, O God, we have received in the midst of your temple. Your praise, O God, like your name, reaches the ends of the earth; your right hand is filled with saving justice. Psalm 49:10-11
Collect: Loving God, maker of heaven and earth, by whose gracious will the mysteries of the kingdom are revealed to the childlike, make us learn from Jesus humility of heart, that in shouldering his yoke we may find refreshment and rest. We ask this through our Saviour Jesus Christ, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

FROM THE PRECENTOR
For a few months now, probably since around Easter, many of you have asked if I am settling into Cathedral life. My standard response was always that I am not and that I will start settling in only when the new Dean settles in. Well finally that process can begin.
The last two weeks have been marked by two very emotional events. To begin with, it was sad to say good bye to Diane and Bruce as our Priests-in-Charge. We have enjoyed a steady six-month journey with them and the office was always filled with laughter. They will be missed. Thursday evening’s installation of Dean Anne, on the other hand, was a joyful moment. We welcome Anne, Chris, Emma and Kate and pray for this new phase in the life of the Cathedral. With Dean Anne’s arrival, I believe that the laughter will continue!
And yes, we are looking to the future – the imminent one and the long-term one. The Cathedral consecration is around the corner and what follows is even more exciting. Our real task ahead will involve the way we deepen our connection to our mission statement together. Welcoming, worshipping, nourishing and empowering people of all walks of life will be our challenge.
The foundations are laid – let us now build the house of God, the one more precious than the stones around us, the one that will last longer than this place.

Music Department
The Choristers are enjoying a well-earned holiday and the Cathedral Choir will go on a break after tonight’s Evensong. There will be a Sung Eucharist with cantor at 10am on Sunday 16th July, and we are delighted that the St Mary’s Singers will lead both 10 am Eucharist and 5 pm Choral Evensong on Sunday 23rd July.
Many thanks to them for providing this continuity to our worship. The choirs return to sing services again from Sunday 30th July.

Thank You & Au Revoir
We were very touched by the wonderful surprise by the choir last Sunday, as they sang the Benedicite Aotearoa to an original setting composed especially for the occasion of our farewell – thank you Matt, choir members, Michael and Philip. And we were left speechless by the generosity of so many in the gift towards our travel fund, along with many kind words.
It has been an honour to be entrusted with the role of Priests in Charge these past six months, and a lovely experience to get to know so many people better. Thank you for your generous support and friendship.

Bishop Selwyn Lecture House-hunting and Home-coming: Understanding Space and Spirituality
This will be the theme of this year’s Bishop Selwyn Lecture, by The Very Reverend Professor Martyn Percy, Dean of Christchurch, Oxford.
Martyn’s visit will coincide with the NZ Deans’ conference; he will also be our guest preacher at both morning services on Sunday 6 August.

FOR OUR PRAYERS
We pray for those who have died and remember those whose anniversaries occur at this time especially Carly Dalton. May they rest in peace and may light perpetual shine on them.
PRAYERS FOR THE CHURCH: We give thanks for the installation of Dean Anne and pray for her and the Mills family as they settle into life at the Cathedral. We pray that this new chapter of ministry here will continue to lead us into fruitful mission.We pray for our Bishops Ross and Jim as they lead the diocese and for partner Bishop Kito in his role in Te Tai Tokerau.
PRAYERS FOR NZ: We pray for the new programmes launched this week by the police dealing with incidents of domestic violence and for all involved in seeking to change the underlying attitudes that support it. We pray for all who work in the mental health sector and those who seek their help.
PRAYERS FOR THE WORLD: We pray for the ongoing conflict in Mosul and Raqqa and those who are suffering from its affects; for those caught up in the deadly attack in Niger and for the Qatar – Gulf crisis with its unknown consequences.
Cathedral Prayer Chain is a group of parishioners committed to respond promptly to any requests for confidential prayer.
