TE POUHERE SUNDAY
Sentence: ‘There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:28
Collect: Creator God, you make the sun to give light in the day, the moon and the stars for guidance at night, you divided the seas making a path through the waters. Grant that, sailing out in our canoes of Tikanga Pakeha, Tikanga Maori, and Tikanga Polynesia, we may follow the way you have charted for us and from our separate home ports find our common destination in you. We ask this through your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

FROM THE PRIESTS IN CHARGE
In May 1992, the General Synod / Te Hinota Whanui made an important and ground-breaking decision by adopting a revised Constitution which established a three-Tikanga Church. The name of our church became The Anglican Church of Aotearoa New Zealand and Polynesia. This constitution was called Te Pouhere and it provided for three partners to order their affairs within their own cultural context. While remaining one Church, Te Pouhere enabled each Tikanga to exercise mission and ministry to God’s people within their own culture and be an equal partner in the decision-making processes of the Church.
The word tikanga (with a small ‘t’) means ‘custom, way, style, or cultural model’, but when it’s used in a specifically Anglican context it’s written with a capital T and means one of the three cultural strands that together make up the Anglican church in this part of the world.
This Cathedral is a three Tikanga Cathedral, and this is symbolised by the presence of three Bishops chairs. And our prayer book is another symbol as the liturgies are in the different languages of our Church.
Today is Te Pouhere Sunday when we celebrate the uniqueness of our Church. We are grateful to Archbishop John Paterson, who was instrumental in the formation of the new constitution, for being our preacher today.

Congratulations
Congratulations to Canon David Dang on his 60th anniversary of ordination as priest.
He was ordained on Trinity Sunday, 16 June 1957, in St Andrew’s Cathedral, Singapore.
His ministry has included several posts in Singapore, as well as Melbourne and New York.
In Auckland since 1978, he has served ecumenically in various denominations, and was Canon Resident at this Cathedral 1985-90. Friends from Singapore joined many others for a Thanksgiving Service here yesterday. God bless you, David and Mary.
Invitation to Iftar
In response to our hosting the Iftar recently, one of the Shia Muslim Centres has invited Cathedral people to join them for a similar occasion on Saturday 24 June at 5.00pm. The Al Murtaza Centre is at 9J Westech Place, Glen Eden (off Great North Road).
Firm numbers will need to be given by Wed 21st, so please place your name on the sign-up sheet in the Visitor Centre or office.
Please note that on this occasion women and men will eat in separate spaces, and ‘modest dress’ is requested, which basically means arms and legs covered and women with a scarf.
Jammies in June
Remember our Jammies in June appeal led by Kidz First. Bring new jammies to the office during the week or place them in the basket at the back of the Cathedral. Thank you to those who have already responded!

A team of 4 from the Cathedral have made a commitment to live for 5 days on refugee rations to raise funds for Syrian refugees.

Guest Preacher 8am & 10am: Rev Robert Heaney
The Rev. Robert S. Heaney, Ph.D, D.Phil. was ordained a priest in the Church of Ireland, and has been active in parishes in Ireland, England, Tanzania, and America.
He currently serves as the director of the Centre for Anglican Communion Studies and is associate professor of Christian mission at Virginia Theological Seminary.
