WELCOME TO HOLY TRINITY CATHEDRAL
Living God’s Love:
Welcoming - Worshipping - Nourishing - Empowering
A very warm welcome to the community of Holy Trinity Cathedral.
If you would like to know more about Cathedral programmes, or receive regular information, please complete one of the blue cards at the rear of the Cathedral or Chapel, and give it to a sides-person or to one of the clergy.
SUNDAY AFTER ASCENSION
Sentence: ‘Lift up your heads you gates! Lift yourselves up you everlasting doors, that the King of Glory may come in!’ Psalm 24:7
Collect: God of majesty, yours is the power that raised Christ from death, yours the glory that exalted him to your right hand. By the mystery of the Ascension, sustain our hope as we bear witness to our baptism. By the perpetual outpouring of your Spirit, confirm your Church in its mission of salvation. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
8am & 9am: Acts 1:1-11; Luke 24:44-53. 10am: Acts 1:1-11; Ephesians 1:15-23; Luke 24:44-53. 5pm: 1 Samuel 23:1-5; Ephesians 1:15-23.
FROM THE PRIESTS-IN-CHARGE
The Ascension of Jesus marks a major point of transition between his earthly ministry and the coming of the Holy Spirit in a new and fuller measure. For the disciples, the experience of Jesus’ gracious ministry, and the witnessing of his death and resurrection, were both a preparation and a legacy for the continuation of the work he had begun, and for all the challenges that lay ahead of them. Two thousand years later, we share that legacy and responsibility.
Joining us this morning at the 10am service are former students from Queen Victoria School for Maori Girls who are enjoying a reunion from the 1970-75 period of the school’s history. We are delighted to welcome them as they come to honour the memory of their Head Mistress Miss Alice Berridge, and to give thanks for the legacy they received from her.
The past week has seen the completion of the tuning, and the signing off, of the new Cathedral organ. Here is yet another enduring legacy. We are told that this outstanding instrument is of such quality that it will still be in full voice centuries from now!
We give thanks to the Risen and ascended Christ for all our countless blessings.

We pray for those who have died, especially Mary Ann Ferrier, Dulcie Caro and Judy Gebbie; and remember those whose anniversaries occur at this time. May they rest in peace and may light perpetual shine on them.
PRAYERS FOR THE WORLD: For those affected by the terrorist attack in Manchester; for the families who are grieving and the young people injured. May they all know God’s grace and strength. For the 82 Chibok schoolgirls released after being kidnapped by the Boko Haram in 2014: for their families as they reunite and for their futures that the traumas experienced may be overcome.
PRAYERS FOR NZ: For all those involved in the care and education of children and young people, especially today acknowledging the many young women whose lives were influenced by their time as pupils at Queen Victoria School for Maori Girls, giving special thanks for the work of Miss Alice Berridge, Head Mistress from 1943 to 1975
PRAYERS FOR THE CHURCH: For our Bishops, Ross and Jim, and for our partner Bishop, Kito, Bishop of Te Tai Tokerau; For Anne Mills and her family as she prepares to take up the role of Dean. For the Iftar meal that we are hosting for our Muslim brothers and sisters, that bridges of understanding will continue to be built.
