Living God’s Love:

Welcoming - Worshipping - Nourishing - Empowering

A very warm welcome to the community of Holy Trinity Cathedral.

If you would like to know more about Cathedral programmes, or receive regular information, please complete one of the blue cards at the rear of the Cathedral or Chapel, and give it to a sides-person or to one of the clergy.

Sentence:  All you who have been baptised have been clothed with Christ. Alleluia. Galatians 3:27

Collect: Almighty God, who in your great mercy gladdened the disciples with the sight of the risen Lord: give us such knowledge of his presence with us, that we may be strengthened and sustained by his risen life and serve you continually in righteousness and truth; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

8am & 9am: Acts 2:14a,36-41; Luke 24:13-35
10am: Acts 2:14a,36-41; 1 Peter 1:17-23; Luke 24:13-35
5pm: Haggai 1:13-2:9; 1 Corinthians 3:10-17

ANZAC Day has become a much bigger event than I remember from my childhood.  Then, and for many years later, it was a fairly minimal affair.  It’s been fascinating to note the change and to wonder why these changes have happened.

I’m sure one of the reasons is distance from the actual events.  Then the feelings of those who had been actual participants were too raw to be spoken of and the losses of loved ones so real they didn’t need an annual remembrance – they were already a daily one.

But I think the rise in attendance at ANZAC services also indicates the deep need we all have to be part of something that is bigger than ourselves and the need for meaningful rituals in our lives.  The rise in secularism has meant that for many, many people ANZAC services are the only way these two important needs are met.

We call that ‘experiencing transcendence’.   Every time we participate in the Eucharist we are remembering that which is SO much bigger than ourselves, we are communing with God in deeply personal and meaningful ways and we are opening ourselves to being transformed by the power of our remembering.

This ‘Eucharistic lifestyle’, with thankful remembering at its heart, offers us a way of living that is healthy and hopeful, deep and nourishing.  How blessed are we.
