HELP OUR CATHEDRAL RESOUND WITH ITS NEW VOICE
THE CATHEDRAL ORGAN
The original Cathedral organ, built by Harrison and Harrison of Durham, England, was installed in the Chancel of Holy Trinity in 1968. With the completion of the Nave in the early 1990's, the organ's design and location rendered it inadequate for the enlarged building. In addition, the instrument is now failing mechanically and is beyond economic repair.
The time has arrived when we can delay no longer; our Cathedral needs a new organ.
THE NEW VOICE
A magnificent new organ - the New Voice - has been designed for Holy Trinity Cathedral by Nicholson and Co. of Malvern, England. The organ will be manufactured in their UK factory from 2015 and installation will commence in 2016. An independent organ consultant, Paul Hale, will oversee the UK construction and NZ installation of the organ.
The new instrument will comprise 92 speaking stops and 5,322 pipes. It will be played from two 4-manual consoles: a fixed console in a loft above the Marsden Chapel, or a mobile console in the Nave.
The removal of the bridge between the Nave and the Chancel will allow the new organ pipes to be heard and seen from everywhere in the Cathedral.
The New Voice Project is a part of the multi-faceted Selwyn's Vision, to complete and consecrate our Cathedral. The New Voice Project aims to raise the final $1 million towards the organ cost of $4.5 million, by inviting you to give $1,500 and "Donate a Pipe".
SPEAKING TO THE CITY
Holy Trinity is a leading worship, civic, community, cultural, drama and arts facility, welcoming more than 100,000 people each year.
The New Voice of our Cathedral will speak to those who worship at regular services, those who mark achievements at school prizegivings, those who mourn at funerals, those who are called to remembrance at grand ceremonial civic occasions, those who are thrilled at performing arts events, those who celebrate at weddings, those who are enriched by recitals, and those who experience quiet intimate moments of reflection.
Donating a Pipe is your opportunity to make a lasting contribution to this Cathedral, for the benefit of generations to come.
Donors to the New Voice Project will:
- Have your name(s) acknowledged on a plaque in the
Cathedral at the completion of the organ installation.
- Receive regular project updates.
- Receive two tickets to the opening recital
of the New Voice organ.
- Receive a personal tax rebate (for individual donors) of $500 for each pipe donated.
