The windows of the nave consist of three distinctive
sets, but are designed to be viewed as two.
At the northern end (the liturgical west) of the Cathedral, overlooking the forecourt, as the Great
Window which consists of five panels, believed to be the largest in New Zealand. Designed by noted New Zealand artist Nigel Brown, they were gifted by the Edmiston Trust and the late Sir Robert Owens, and were installed and dedicated during 1998 - 1999.
Along the sides are two banks of nine windows which,
combined, tell the story of Christianity through Bible stories. Two highly
respected New Zealand artists designed them: Shane Cotton, the western
set; Robert Ellis, those on the eastern side. The windows were dedicated on 7th November 2004 by the Dean, The Rt Revd Richard Randerson. The address, which you may read here, was given by the Prime Minister, the Rt Honourable Helen Clark.
The windows are viewed in a clockwise procession around the Cathedral, beginning at the front of the nave on the western side.
