By Bus or Taxi

Holy Trinity Cathedral, St Mary's Church, the Selwyn Library and Bishopscourt are grouped with other historic buildings at the corner of Parnell Road and St Stephen's Avenue only minutes from the centre of Auckland City.

The most usual and convenient way of getting here is by the "Link" bus service (click for more information, including departure points); bus stops are outside and opposite the Cathedral entrance. Tell your driver where you want to get off, and he will announce it. Buses depart from the city, Ponsonby, Newmarket

Ask city taxi drivers to take you to the Cathedral in Parnell.

On Foot

We are about 2.5 km by road east of the intersection of Queen Street and Customs Street in the city. Terrain is flat for the first 1.5 kms, then becomes fairly steep until the Cathedral is reached.

Travel along Customs Street, Beach Road (past the picturesque old Railway Station), up Parnell Rise and Parnell Road through the popular and quaint Parnell Village. At the top of the hill and impossible to miss is the Cathedral. After your visit you could visit the Auckland Museum, another 200 metres along Parnell Road and up Maunsell Road, or the upmarket Newmarket shopping precinct, about 500 metres further along Parnell Road.

By Motor Vehicle

Should you prefer to drive here, we have a large Park and Pay carpark with very reasonable fees. Entrances are in Brighton Road, near the corner of St Stephen's Avenue, and on Parnell Road, near the corner of Cathedral Close. You may park your vehicle here while you explore other parts of Parnell, Newmarket and the Museum. Motor caravans are welcome.

Opening Hours

Holy Trinity Cathedral and St Mary's Church are open to visitors every day unless a special service or event is taking place.
Summer (October - March):
Monday - Saturday: 10 am to 4 pm.
Sundays: 11 am to 4 pm.
Winter hours (April - September): close 3.30 pm.

St Stephen's Chapel, Judge Street, Parnell

Tiny St Stephen's Chapel is about ten minutes easy stroll down gently sloping St Stephen's Avenue, passing Gladstone Rd on your left. Turn left into Judge Street and walk through the lych gate at the bottom to find the Chapel and cemetery. There are several historic buildings to see on the walk, and the cemetery, church, setting and views are magnificent, and well worth experiencing. There is no access to the Chapel from Judges Bay Road.

Please note that this church is open for worship at 9 a.m. most Sundays, and all are welcome, but is not open for public viewing at other times, except by special arrangement through the Cathedral office.
