The Choir

Music has always been important in the Parnell Parish, and a choir has been in existence almost continually since 1860. Today, the Cathedral Choir sings services in St Mary's when needed.

A list of Organists and Choirmasters prior to the appointment of a Director of Music may be found here.

The Organ in St Mary's

In 1873 an organ was installed to replace the harmonium in "Old" St Mary's Church. This organ was moved into St Mary's Cathedral Church in 1888, and in 1907 into St Alban's, Balmoral, when the present organ was built by William Croft of N.Z.

The Organ in St Mary's Church is in the Choir on the north side of the chancel, with the console in an alcove below.
